During the period between October 23 and 28, 1941 near the 10th streetcar stop on Bolshaya Fontanskaya Road, in the courtyard of the former rest-home [for employees] of the State Bank, about 60 people of all ages and both sexes (400 men, according to some sources), apparently both Jews and non-Jews, were shot by Romanian soldiers as an act of intimidation.

...On October 23-28, 1941, during the first days of the occupation of the city of Odessa, during those days of terror, mass arrests of Soviet civilians were carried out in retaliation for acts of sabotage. Especially brutal mass arrests took place in the area of Bolshaya Fontanskaya Road. All the male civilians age 14 to 80, totalling about 1,000, were driven into a park near the 10th [streetcar] stop on Bolshaya Fontanskaya Road. There they were divided into two groups. One, numbering about 400 people, was shot by machine-gun fire, while the other was taken to watch the mass shooting and then released...

State Extraordinary Commission for Investigation of Nazi War Crimes in the Soviet Union (ChGK) documentation dated 1944, regarding the murder and persecution of Jews in Odessa, 1941-1944
On October 24, 1941 at 12 noon all the men living in the vicinity of 10th [streetcar] stop were ordered to appear, supposedly to be registered, at the building of the rest-home [for employees] of the State Bank, where they were warned by a Romanian officer not to resist the Romanian and German troops because, [if they did] they would suffer the same fate [that was being meeted out to others]: at this point Romanian soldiers drove into the courtyard a group of 60 people, including men, women, and children, and shot them in front of those who had shown up for registration. I remember especially one incident: a Romanian soldier dragged a woman toward a group of those to be shot; she begged him [to spare her], telling him that she had two little children at home. In response the Romanian soldier hit her with his rifle butt and then shot her. At that point a little girl about 3 years old ran up to the Romanian soldier and asked: "Uncle Romanian, why did you kill my mum?" By way of a reply the Romanian monster stabbed the child with his bayonet....
