According to the testimony of several survivors, in the course of the pogrom carried out in Tarnopol in early July 1941, a number of Jews were forced by Ukrainian nationalists into an old synagogue known as Reb Yankel's prayer house on Staroszkolna (today Parashchuk) Street and were burned alive there.
