Ita Gon, who was born in 1886 and lived in Brody during the war years, testifies:
…It was…1943…. Suddenly, completely unexpectedly, Germans surrounded the ghetto. I, together with my daughter and grandchildren, hid during the murder operation…. We saw the Germans set the houses on fire, drag the Jews out of their hiding places, and throw them into the flames alive. Many were shot dead on the spot….
