According to one testimony, in the second half of September 1941 a number of members of the Jewish intelligentsia of Uman were hanged, probably by members of Einsatzkommando 5 of Einsatzgruppe C, near the building in which the teachers' seminary of Uman had been located before the war.

From the Testimony of Buzia Sigalova, who was born in 1925:
…In September [1941], before Rosh haShana, they took the aristocratic [members of the upper class or of the intelligentsia] Jews, doctors [etc.] and hanged them where a teachers' seminary had been located. I saw this myself. Among them (I now recall) was Dr. Dimanshteyn. There was also Dr. Butsies, but I do not remember the others…
