Murder story of Novo Ukrainka Jews in the Gusarskiy Forest

From the testimony of Rudolf August R., former member of Einsatzgruppe C, taken in West Berlin on November 6, 1963 Novo-Ukrainka [sic] ….The execution of the Jews was carried out before our departure for Kiev. This period might have been from September 15 to September 20, 1941. In this case 150 – 200 Jews were shot, among them were men, women, and several children. The group of shooters consisted of 40 people, among whom were 6-8 officers. As members of this group we drove to the execution site in a field outside of the town. There a pit measuring 5 x 3 x 2 meters had been prepared. I believe that Ukrainian policemen had dug the pit. They were also members of the outside cordon of guards while I was part of the inside one. In this case SD members shot from sub-machineguns. The Jews had to stand or to kneel with their backs toward the shooters. The women were holding their children in their arms. While during the previous shooting that I participated in everything was well organized, in this case shouting and moaning were heard. The execution lasted for an hour and a half. Apparently the pit was later covered over by Ukrainian policemen.
