Sergo
Ukraine (USSR)
Jews began to settle in Sergo (prior to 1937 Kadiyivka) in the early 20th century. Although their numbers grew during the Soviet period, they remained a small minority. Thus, in 1939 Sergo was home to 922 Jews, who made up 1.35 percent of the total population.

Sergo was occupied by the Germans on July 12, 1942. Most of the local Jews had been able to evacuate prior to that, and those who stayed were shot.

The town was liberated by the Red Army on September 3, 1943. Its name was subsequently changed to Kadiivka.

Until 1937, the town was named Kadiyivka. In 1937, it was renamed Sergo, after Sergo Ordzhonikidze. In 1940, it reverted to its original name, Kadiyivka. In 1978, it was renamed Stakhanov, after the famous Soviet miner Alexey Stakhanov. In 2016, the original name, Kadiyivka, was restored.
