Sonia Sara Engelsberg (the mother of the submitters) was born in Czechoslovakia in 1924. Sonia was in Auschwitz camp where she underwent many tortures, including medical experiments carried out by Josef Mengele; she survived on many occasions thanks to her knowledge of various languages. She was on the death marches, and was rescued by a German family. She wrote her memoirs in Czech in 1946. She died in 1981.
