The Holocaust In Memory Of Millions

Veteran journalist Walter Cronkite, speaking from the then new United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, narrates this story of a Holocaust. Historical records, original footage and personal photographs combine to chronicle the rise of the Nazi Party and their genocidal plan to exterminate the Jewish people. Oral histories from survivors present tales of bravery in the concentration camps. Also include are an interview with Noble Price laureate Elie Wiesel and the inauguration ceremony of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum with the presence of president Clinton.

The Voyage of the St. Louis

Documentary film about the ship "St. Louis", a ship of refugees on which in May 1939 around 930 German Jews sailed to Cuba in hope of a new life far from the Germany of Hitler. The passengers on the St. Louis were not permitted to enter Cuba and the ship returned to Europe. England, Belgium, France and Holland agreed to accept the passengers of the St. Louis, but most were later victims of the Nazis. Includes testimonies, photographs, archival films and documentation of a reunion with around 9 survivors of the St. Louis.

Finding Family

Henry Blumenstein was a child in 1939 when, after fleeing Nazioccupied Austria, his family gained passage with other Jewish refugees on the St. Louis.When the ship was abruptly refused entry by Cuba and sent back to Europe, the family found its way to Amsterdam. Henry’s mother placed him in hiding with the Dijkstras, a poor Catholic Dutch family, shortly before she was captured and sent to Auschwitz. First episode of this 4-years complicated production aired in 1981 and created a public stir and controversy regarding the presentation of the Sephardim Jewry contribution to the Zionist movement. “Pillar of Fire” us based on archival films and photos takes from 30 archives, both in Israel and abroad, interviews and illustrations. This short 7-episodes version of the series was produced for foreign markets. Narration by British actor Ian MacCellen.

Bound for Nowhere - The St. Louis Episode

Documentary film produced by the Joint Distribution Committee in order to publicize the plight of German refugees to the American public. The film is based on original films documenting the travellers on the St. Louis, going aboard with their meagre belongings, the boat on the Cuban shore where the refugees negotiated for asylum, an aerial map of the journey, the JDC offices in Paris and New York and their efforts to find shelter for the passengers on the boat in different European countries.
