On the morning of April 2, 1942, there was no sign that the deportations were coming to an end. The Ghetto Chronicle mentioned cases of people who volunteered for the transport in the belief that everyone would be leaving the ghetto soon and whoever left earlier would be better off. "It was said that the deportations were going to stop on April 3, 1942, but again more numbers are mentioned and some speak of total liquidation of the ghetto."

On April 2, Józef Zelkowicz, one of the writers for the Ghetto Chronicle, wrote in his diary:...
