On September 11, 1941, 154 (155, according to other sources) Jews - men, women, and children - were killed in the area of the Catholic cemetery southwest of Leipalingis, near the Seira River, by Germans and some Lithuanian volunteers. Three young men managed to escape from the murder site and survived.
