Shortly after the shooting in the market square, some Jews who had managed to escape from the square were caught by gendarmes and Ukrainian policemen and taken to the town's synagogue, where they were shot dead.

Tamara Khomitskaya, who was born in 1928 in Rokitno and lived there during war years, testified:
And the rest [of the Jews] who had escaped [from the market square] scattered in all directions – into the houses, onto the roofs, into the barns, toilets, and gardens.… Those who managed to reach some shelter would fall down [i.e., hide] there and lie low. And they [apparently, the Ukrainian auxiliary policemen] were rooting them [i.e., the Jews] out [of their hiding places], taking them to the [Rokitno] synagogue, and shooting them all inside the synagogue.…
