According to a testimony, in the first days of July 1941 a group of Jewish men and their family members (some 100 persons in total), who had been hiding from the German soldiers, were found in the cellar of the Kurman residence in the town, near the Łuck-Równe road. The German soldiers ordered the Jews out of the cellar and lined them up in five rows. They proceeded to shoot four of the rows with machine guns, while the fifth row of Jews was sent back into the cellar, and hand grenades were tossed at them. Afterward, the house was set on fire.

From the testimony of Khariton Kuks, who was born in 1881 and lived in Klewań during the German occupation:
…Besides, in the cellar of the Kurman residence, I saw some burned bodies being taken out of this cellar, [but] I don’t know where they were buried. Some 15-20 bodies were removed from this cellar; they had been murdered by the German Fascists….

…I also know of the killing of as many as 100 civilians, residents [of Klewań], in the cellar of a house [in the town]. This happened after the encirclement of several houses… and the annihilation of 70 people. When [these] 70 people were dead, the Hitlerite soldiers began to kill the civilians [hiding] in the cellar of a house near the Luck-Równe road, on its left side. In this cellar, Jewish men and their families had been hiding from the shelling…, and from the German soldiers. I learned about this from Jews who had managed to escape this massacre, I don’t know their last names…. The German soldiers who had approached the cellar ordered [the Jews in the cellar] to come out and line up in five rows. When the civilians had lined up, four rows were murdered with machine guns, while the fifth row was sent back into the cellar, and [hand] grenades were tossed [at the victims]. Afterward, the house was set on fire….
