Apparently, in late August 1941 several dozen Jews and some Soviet activists were taken by the Romanian authorities to the living quarters of the Einsatzkommando 12 unit, at the former town hospital. Upon arrival, the arrestees were locked in the hospital cellar. Shortly afterward, on the orders of Max Drexel, head of the Einsatzkommando 12 murder squad, they were taken to the garden (or the courtyard, according to another testimony) of the former hospital. There, the victims had to kneel in front of pits that had been dug in advance, and shot by members of Einsatzkommando 12.
