ChGK Soviet Reports from Mikoyan Shakhar
In Mikoyanshakhar [sic] town frequent shootings took place. Recently the shooting of the innocent residents of Mikoyanshakhar [sic] has been taking place early in the morning. This is what Komsomol member Nina Kuzmenko, her mother Aleksandra Kuzmenko, and others said about the shooting of 62 Jews on January 14, 1943. All the Jewish population of the town was collected in a barrack located next to the Teberda River. In the barrack were held children, young women, and men, as well as old people. For many days all these unfortunates performed the most difficult and dirty jobs. On the night of January 14 the barrack was emptied at 3 a.m. All the barrack inmates were taken, guarded by police, to the forest outside of the town, near the Teberda River. After some minutes shots and the heart-rending screams of women and children were heard. According to the testimony of witnesses, 62 people were shot that night, among them were: the Kleynshvag family, consisting of 7 people, the Kaselman family, consisting of 3 people, and others. In the morning, when the police who had perpetuated the atrocities against helpless children, women, and old people left, residents of Mikoyanshakhar town discovered the freshly dug pit. It was leveled to the ground but still could be seen.
