... On the first day of the occupation, October 8, 1941, the first twenty-six citizens caught by SS units were tortured in the former NKVD building in the center of the city. They skinned their arms, cut off their genitals, ears, and noses, and cemented them, half dead, into the walls of a basement. After thirteen days the corpses were taken out and presented to the population as [having been] victims of the NKVD. Thus perished the civilians Levin, Kogan, Alivanov, etc ....
