Belokurakino
Ukraine (USSR)
The Belokurakino County lay outside the Pale of Settlement prior to the Russian Revolution. For this reason, the town of Belokurakino was home to very few Jews, unlike other settlements of the Voroshilovgrad District. Some Jews did settle in the town in the early 20th century, but the exact number of Jewish residents was not recorded even as late as 1939. German troops occupied Belokurakino on July 9, 1941. During the occupation of the town, the Germans killed some 470 civilians and Soviet functionaries. On the day of their retreat, the Germans shot eight people, including three Jews. The Red Army liberated Belokurakino on January 19, 1943.
