Karan
Ukraine (USSR)
The village of Karan was established in 1882, and most of its residents were employees of the eponymous railway station. Little is known about the presence of Jews in the village before the Soviet-German war. Apparently, after the Nazi invasion of the USSR in late June 1941, a number of Jewish refugees fled to Karan from areas already under German control. Karan itself was occupied by the Wehrmacht in mid-October 1941. The local Jews were shot in mid-winter 1941-1942. Karan was liberated by Red Army troops in September 1942. In 1945, the village was renamed Andreyevka.
