Kalnibolotskaya
Russia (USSR)
Prior to the Russian Revolution, the village of Kalnibolotskaya had lain outside the Pale of Settlement. Hence, no Jews lived there on the eve of World War II. However, following the German invasion of the USSR on June 22, 1941, the Kalnibolotsky County came to house a large number of civilian evacuees, including many Jews. German troops occupied Kalnibolotskaya in early August 1942. In September 1942, the German military, assisted by the local police and administration, gassed forty-eight Jewish evacuees to death in a community garden southeast of the village. The Red Army liberated Kalnibolotskaya on January 28, 1943.
