Zugres
Ukraine (USSR)
Zugres was founded in 1929-1932 in the area of the former Zuyevka farmstead, to provide housing to employees of the Zuyevka hydroelectric power station, which was being built at the time. In 1938, Zugres became a town. In 1939, it was home to 188 Jews, who made up 1.7 percent of the total population. Zugres was occupied by German troops on October 24, 1941. Apparently, some of the Jews had been evacuated into the Soviet interior. The remaining Jews were murdered in December 1941. The town was liberated by the Red Army on September 3, 1943.
