Imeni Dimitrova Kolkhoz
Russia (USSR)
Imeni Dimitrova kolkhoz or The Dimitrov kolkhoz) was organized in the early 1930s on the territory of Rozental village, which was founded by German colonists in the late 19th century. The village was populated by ethnic Germans. Some sources say residents of the Stavropol Region settled in the village and organized a new kolkhoz named after Dimitrov (Imeni Dimitrova kolkhoz) when the Rozental Germans had been deported in summer – fall 1941. Jewish refugees from other areas of the USSR probably arrived in the village in the fall of 1941. After an offensive of the Wehrmacht in the south of the USSR in the summer of 1942 many evacuees tried to escape again. However, a number of Jews did not succeed before the area was occupied in early August of 1942. Some of these Jews were shot and others were buried alive in the vicinity of the prison. The village was liberated by the Red Army in mid-January 1943. It was renamed Sadovka in 1949 (according to other sources, this happened earlier, in 1941). In 1989 Sadovka village was again renamed, this time as Rozental.
