Shatsk

Jews apparently settled in Shatsk at the end of the 18th or the beginning of the 19th century. In 1926 the 684 Jews who lived in Shatsk comprised 38.6 percent of the total population. Most local Jews worked in crafts cooperatives, others in agriculture. A Yiddish elementary school was opened in 1924.

Shatsk was occupied by the Germans at the beginning of July 1941. A number of local Jews were murdered in October 1941 near the village of Zadoshchenye.

The town was liberated by the Red Army at the beginning of July 1944.
