In October 1941 635 Shatsk Jews were collected, supposedly to be moved to another place, but they were actually taken to the forest near Zadoshchenye village, where they were shot to death and buried in a pit.

... The largest operation to annihilate the Jews was carried out in October 1941. People were told to take their valuables and gather on the square. From there they were taken into the woods [and killed], after being promised that they would be moved somewhere....
