Jews started to settle in Begoml in the first half of the 19th century. In 1939 the town's 206 Jews comprised 10,1 percent of the total population. The majority of Jews worked at the local kolkhoz named after Voroshilov. Until 1931 a Yiddish elementary school operated in Begoml.

Begoml was occupied by the Germans on July 2, 1941. Apparently in October, most Jews of the town were killed. On November 1941 the remaining Jews were shot to death by Germans and local collaborators.

Begoml was liberated in December 1942 by the Soviet partisan groups that were very active in the area and was under their control until the entry of the Red Army into the area in 1944.
