Nogaysk

Jewish settlement in Nogaysk apparently began in the first half of the 19th century. By the end of the century the number of Jews in the town increased to 572, i.e., 13 per cent of the total population. The Jews mostly made their living from small trade and crafts. The number of Jews declined between the two world wars due to migration. Only 103 Jews remained in Nogaysk in 1939, when they comprised 1.3 percent of the total population. The town was occupied on October 6, 1941. In November 50 Jews were murdered there. Nogaysk was liberated by the Red Army on September 18, 1943. In 1964 the town was renamed Primorsk.
