Lenindorf
Ukraine (USSR)
Lenindorf was a Jewish agricultural colony established in 1924 with the support of the American Agro-Joint organization. Soon after its establishment Lenindorf became the seat of a rural council that included 5 Jewish villages. A total of 867 people, a majority of whom were Jews, lived in Lenindorf in 1931. Most of the Jews were agricultural workers. There was a Yiddish school in Lenindorf. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union many Jewish refugees came to Lenindorf from across the Dnieper River. Lenindorf was occupied by German troops in mid-September 1941. Some of the Jews succeeded in leaving in time. After the village was occupied its name was changed to Novovyzvolne. In early October 1941 about 1,000 Jews from Lenindorf and the five other villages of the Lenindorf Rural Council were shot. Lenindorf was liberated by the Red Army in the summer of 1943. After the war the name of the village was changed to Leninskoye.
