Pukhovichi
Belorussia (USSR)
Jews settled in Pukhovichi during the sixteenth century. In 1921, members of a local gang under Colonel Pavlovsky killed several of the town’s Jewish inhabitants. During the Soviet period, a Yiddish school operated in Pukhovichi. In December 1926, 929 Jews lived in Pukhovichi, 43 percent of the total population. The Germans occupied the town at the end of June 1941. Pukhovichi’s Jews were murdered in 1941. The town was liberated at the beginning of July 1944.
