Jews probably first settled in Khorol at the beginning of the 17th century but in 1648 during the Chmelnitsky uprising the local Jewish community was apparently annihilated. In 1905 and 1919 there were pogroms in the town, the later one perpetuated by the Volunteer Army of Denikin. In 1926 2,081 Jews lived in Khorol. The town was occupied by the Germans on September 13, 1941. In October (November) 1941 460 Jews were killed on the road to Lubenskoye. The town was liberated by the Red Army on September 19, 1943.
