A small Jewish community existed in Gornostayevka at the beginning of the 20th century. As result of migration during the revolutionary years and the process of Soviet urbanization most of Jews of Gornostayevka moved to large cities. Gornostayevka was occupied by German troops at the end of August, 1941. When war broke out some Jewish families fled Gornostayevka. Those Jews (members of a few families) who remained were murdered by the Germans.
