Gory
Belorussia (USSR)
The earliest references to the presence of Jews in Gory date to the last quarter of the 17th century. During the Soviet period, most of the Jews of Gory were artisans, employees of the local flax factory, or agricultural workers (in two cooperatives, and, later, at the Rassvet collective farm). In 1926, a Yiddish school was opened in Gory. That year, the town was home to 355 Jews, who made up 67.5 percent of the total population Gory was occupied by the Germans on July 12, 1941. Three Jewish men were shot on that day. On October 10, 1941, all the remaining Jews of Gory were shot in the area of the flax factory, on the western outskirts of the town, by members of Einsatzkommando 8B. Gory was liberated by the Red Army in late June 1944.
