Early in the morning of October 10, 1941, Einsatzkommando 8B surrounded Gory. All the local Jews, some 200 people, were dragged out of their homes and taken to the western outskirts of the town. There, on a hill overlooking the Korchevakha River, near the local flax factory, a large pit had been dug. The Jews were ordered to undress and lie face down in the pit, whereupon they were shot. Some of the victims had their skulls smashed with rifle butts; others were thrown into the pit alive.

From the article "The Soldier's Oath," prepared for "The Black Book":
... Early in the morning of October 10, 1941, the Germans surrounded the town. They burst into the house of the eighty-years-old Efros. The old man was praying. One German grabbed him by the hand and shouted: "Out!" Efros replied: "Don't touch me! I am strong enough to go to the grave by myself." The Germans dragged the disabled Gurevich out of the neighboring house. His wife Mira was crying, but Gurevich told her: "Mira, there is no need to cry." The Jews were taken to the factory, where a huge grave had been dug. An old woman named Rakhlen shouted: "You will not be forgiven for the blood of these babies! You will answer for everything!"... She was murdered first. The Jews were forced to undress. "It is cold!" the small children cried. Khana Gurevich shouted: "I will not allow it, I will not let my child be abused," and she strangled her small daughter with her own hands. The aged Efros was murdered last....

From the documents of the investigation of German atrocities, carried out by officers of the Soviet 49th Army:
...The grave is sized 7 x 7 meters. The layer of earth is eighty centimeters deep. The bodies are heaped haphazardly, one atop the other, a total of about fifty people, of various ages and of both sexes, from little babies to elderly people. The bodies are 2 to 2.5 years old, and are partially decomposed. All have bullet wounds in the stomach and chest areas, most probably from automatic weapon fire. Some bear the traces of blunt trauma on their heads – broken skulls, broken bones. Some of them have single bullet wounds in the backs of their heads. Some of the bodies show no signs of damage; apparently, these [victims] were thrown into the grave alive...
