Moskva, Russia, Portrait of Meir Gurowitz as a soldier in the Red Army, 1942.

Meir Gurowitz is father of the submitter. Born in Berezino, 1914. Was a teacher in Uzda. Married Liza, who travelled to Kazakhstan during the war with their two children, Valera (who died on the way) and Maya (submitter, born 1938). After the war, Liza returned to Minsk and remarried in 1945, to a man who lost all his family. Meir sent the photograph from the army. On the back, he wrote: "Dear mother, Lizishka, Mayushka, Valera - from the son, husband, brother and father, Michael. Moskva, June 6, 1942". He died in 1943 on duty in Polibino near Velikiye Luki.

Second row: Moshe (brother, died in 1941), the parents Leiba and Etel Gurowitz (perished in 1940), Beila (daughter of one of the brothers), Cilla Roza (the girl standing) and Leiba (husband of a sister) - the last three were murdered by Germans in Minsk.
