Germany, 1933. Max Windmüller is 13 years-old. The Nazis withdraw his father’s trading license, and the Jewish family from Emden go into exile in Holland. Here, Max prepares himself for a new life in Palestine. Although he actually manages to secure a ship passage in 1939, he is persuaded to continue working in Holland and joins the resistance movement. Max now works alongside the people who later call themselves the “Westerweel Group“. He is constantly on the move in France, Holland and Belgium.
