Episode in a 26-part documentary series that presents a detailed survey of World War II. Episode 11 - "Red Star - The Soviet Union 1941-1943": story of the Soviet Union's war against the Nazis and in particularly the extended siege of Leningrad. In the city of 3 million residents, around 200,000 are killed by German bombardment, and another 630,000 die as a result of starvation or cold, but remarkably, it succeeds not only to survive but also to defeat the Nazis. Includes archival films and testimonies. Narration by the British actor Laurence Olivier.
