The documentary spins a tale of Samuel Willenberg's life. He was 20 at the outbreak of the armed revolt on August 2nd of 1943 in the death camp of Treblinka in Poland. As a result of the revolt 400 out of 1000 inmates managed to escape Treblinka. 67 of them survived the war. The narrative, however, is here and now, against the background of today's Poland and Israel. There were only three armed mutinies in the history of Nazi death camps. The Son of Saul בן של שאול

העלילה מתרחשת באוקטובר 1944 במחנה ההשמדה אושוויץ-בירקנאו, גיבור הסרט הוא שאול אוסלנדר, איש הזונדרקומנדו, יהודי-הונגרי מאונגוואר. בעת פינוי תא הגזים, מבחין שאול בילד גוסס אותו בודק מיקלוש, רופא-אסיר יהודי, ולאחר מכן חונק אותו למוות רופא אס אס. שאול משכנע עצמו שמדובר בבנו ומחליט חרף כל הקשיים והסיכון לחייו להביא את הגופה לקבורה מכובדת. הוא מעלים את הגופה מהמשרפות ומחפש רב שיסייע לו במלאכת הקבורה בהתאם להלכה. בו בזמן מתארגנים עמיתיו לזונדרקומנדו למרד נגד הנאצים שמתכננים להיפטר מהם. שאול נאלץ לתמרן בין התפקיד שלו במרד וטובת הכלל לבין הצורך הרוחני שלו לקבור את הגופה.
