Poltawa, Ukraine, beginning of the 1940s, days before the German invasion. Three children, German Hanna, and Jewish Larissa and Abrascha, are best friends and classical music virtuosos; when the War reaches Poltawa, their friendship is put to the test. The young musicians see only one way out: to help each other and to win over the adults by using their musical ability. When a German official comes to town, he suggests that Larissa and Abrascha perform a concert; if they play perfectly, their lives will be spared, if they make a mistake, they will be deported….

A documentary film. At the outbreak of World War II, 380,000 Jews lived in Warsaw, about a third of the city's population. In the fall of 1940, the the Germans transferred them to the ghetto. On November 19, 1982, Günther Schwarberg, the editor of the German magazine "Der Stern" was invited to the home of an 84-year-old man, from whom he received a yellowing envelope with 140 negatives of photos he had taken 41 years earlier, during World War II.
