Lacombe Lucien's story takes place in the summer of 1944, during the Nazi occupation of France, in a small provincial town in the southwest of the country. 18 years old Lucien Lacombe tires of his work as a hospital cleaner and tries to join the French Resistance but is turned down on account of his young age. As a result of his naivety, he's easily persuaded to join the Gestapo and to work as an agent assisting in arresting his fellow countrymen, some his former friends and relations. Directed by Claus Raefle and lensed by Joerg Widmer, whose credits include “Pina” and “Tree of Life,” “The Invisibles” weaves dramatic re-enactments and interviews with four survivors who were at the time teenagers and young adults.
