Lacombe Lucien's story takes place in the summer of 1944, during the Nazi occupation of France, in a small provincial town in the southwest of the country. 18 years old Lucien Lacombe tires of his work as a hospital cleaner and tries to join the French Resistance but is turned down on account of his young age. As a result of his naivety, he's easily persuaded to join the Gestapo and to work as an agent assisting in arresting his fellow countrymen, some his former friends and relations. However, while initially self-satisfied in his newfound position of power, Lucien begins to have second thoughts when he meets a young woman, the daughter of a Jewish tailor he has been persecuting. Based on his personal wartime recollections, Lacombe Lucien is known as one of director Louis Malle prominent films and was nominated for Oscar in 1975 in the foreign language category.
