Salvador: The Ship of Shattered Hopes

A documentary. The long-forgotten tale of migrant ship, The Salvador, that set sail from Bulgaria en route to Palestine in 1940, carrying 352 passengers on board before sinking by the Turkish coast. Of all the passengers on the ship, only 122 survived. Combining archive material and interviews with the survivors, this documentary tells the story of The Salvador and of Bulgarian Jews’ ill-fated migration efforts, whilst lingering on the way the tragedy was received by the land’s Jewish communities of the time.

Through eyewitness accounts and archival photographs, this documentary depicts the story of the “Exodus”, the ship that became a symbol of the struggle for the right to immigrate to the land of Israel. Approximately 4,500 Jewish refugees boarded the “Exodus” July 11th 1947, a ship that was purchased by the Mossad for Aliya Bet. In cramped conditions and shortages in supplies, the ship left the port in Southern France. During the voyage the name of the ship was changed to “Exit Europe 1947”.

A Remnant of Hope – The Story of Shmuel Bogler

A short documentary. Shmuel Bogler was born in Bodrogkeresztúr, Hungary, in 1929 to a religious family. In April 1944, in the midst of the holiday of Passover, the village’s Jews were deported to a ghetto in the provincial capital of Sátoraljaújhely. Several weeks later, on May 21st 1944, Shmuel and his family were taken from the ghetto to Auschwitz-Birkenau. His parents were sent immediately to the gas chambers and Shmuel and his brother were sent to the Kittlitztreben labor camp.
