On Tuesday, February 1, 1944 the second scheduled transport to Bergen-Belsen left Westerbork. On board were 908 Jewish men, women, children and infants. In total 921 people had been selected for this deportation, out of whom 13 had been discarded or had gone into hiding. According to the transport list from the archives of the Jewish Desk in The Hague, more than half of these people (570) had ties to a foreign country and were seen as useful for applying economic or political pressure; 247 deportees held certificates for Palestine in exchange for German nationals, although only 42 had been approved by the RSHA; 35 were listed as holders of dual citizenship (Dutch and British), although at the time only 18 of them had been approved via Switzerland for exchange; 28 Jews had siblings in an enemy foreign country; 18 Jews had Argentinian, Brazilian or Honduran passports; and there were 10 parents of children who were in possession of British or US-American citizenship. Among the deported were 200 children under the age of 18, at least 141 Jews with German citizenship, and 98 who were listed as sick....
