Transport from Sieradz, Ghetto, Poland to Chelmno, Extermination Camp, Poland on 24/08/1942

Approximately 30,000 Jews lived in the county of Sieradz at the outbreak of the war in 1939. Of these, 2,536 were in the town of Sieradz, constituting some 21 percent of the town’s population. The German army entered Sieradz on September 3, 1939. Friedrich Rippich was nominated as landrat, the county commissioner, and held the role until the end of 1941. The outpost of the Geheime Staatspolizeistelle Litzmannstadt Aussendienstelle Schieratz (the Sieradz branch of the Gestapo Litzmannstadt) was founded in February 1940 on 21 Legionów St. (Breslauer Strasse). Kriminalsekretär Leo Staliński was the chief of the Gestapo in Sieradz and Kriminal Assistant Emil Pemp his deputy. Kurt Abramowski served as chief of the Schutzpolizei in Sieradz. ...
