A document dated March 23, 1942, detailing the cost of the transports, which was sent by the Reichsbahn Verkehrsamt (Transportation Authority of the German national railway) to the Gestapo Litzmannstadt, records that “Transport XIII” left in the morning of March 6, 1942, and that there were 812 Jews on board the train.
The train, marked as "Pj-Zug" (German abbreviation for “Polnischer Judenzug,” a "train with Polish Jews") also had thirteen policemen on board; they were guards from the Schupo (Schutzpolizei, the uniformed regular local German police force ). The fare for the guards was added to the transportation costs.
