International Holocaust Memorial Day was commemorated on 27 January 2014 at the ICTY, and throughout the United Nations. This day was recognized at the Tribunal with particular attention to the heroic efforts of men and women from the Balkans who risked their lives trying to save Jews from certain death. For the event, three holocaust survivors from the former Yugoslavia were invited to tell their positive stories of rescue. Miriam Steiner Aviezer, author of "Hrvatski Pravednici" (Righteous Croats) and other books, Milan Fogel, Author of "Righteous Among the Nations-Serbia" and Dina Chen, a Holocaust child survivor rescued by Righteous from Croatia, enlightened and lifted the audience with their personal stories of hope in a dark time.
