In 1921, the village of Trzeszkowice in the gmina (municipality, rural commune) of Mełgiew, 16 kilometers east of the center of Lublin, was home to thirty-nine Jews. According to the 1921 census, an additional twenty-five Jews lived in the nearby manor (Pol.: folwark).[1]

Little is known about the Jewish community of Trzeszkowice. Yad Vashem's Hall of Names holds only a single entry from this village – that of Ester Steinberg, daughter of Mordechai.[2] Stanisław Lipniacki, a local Polish resident, recalled that some ten Jewish families lived there during World War II. All the local shops – a grocery store, two textile shops, a bakery, and a butcher shop – belonged to Jewish families. The Brzucher family owned one of the local manors.[3]

Under Nazi occupation, the municipality became part of the Lublin County (Kreis Lublin-Land) of the Lublin District. There was no ghetto in the village.[4]...
