Staszic Kolonia is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Uchanie within Hribieszów County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland. It is located a few kilometers south of the town of Uchanie. In 1921, the colony was home to 390 people, including 244 Poles, 142 Ruthenians, and four Jews. In 1939, the local population exceeded 400.[1] At the outbreak of WWII, five Jewish families lived in Staszic, among them the family of Czesława Serafin, a native eyewitness to the horrors that transpired in the village and in Uchanie. In April 1940, all the Jews of Staszic were ordered by the sołtys (village head) to move to Uchanie. The Serafin family were unable to find lodgings there, since many Jews from the nearby localities had likewise been ordered to move to Uchanie. Consequently, they moved in with their uncle.[2]

In 1941, the Germans brought in Jews from other neighboring townlets and villages, as well as from Łowicz, Łódź, and Krakow, and they set up a ghetto in Uchanie. [3]

The deportees from Staszic Kolonia remained in Uchanie until the liquidation of the ghetto, sharing the fate of the local Jewish community, and of the Jews from several surrounding localities, who were concentrated there. On June 8, 1942, some 2000 Jews were deported to Sobibor death camp.[4]...
