The testimony of Vladimir Dicusar, who was born in 1926 in Doybany I and lived there during the war; from an interview taken by Diana Dumitru in 2007:
…That [Rubinstein] family, which had [initially] evacuated to the Bug [River], came back [to Doybany]. The Romanians seized them, shot them dead on the outskirts of the village, and buried them there. They were… Sara, Beila, Syoma, Anna, and Peisik [Rubinstein].… [The shooting took place] on September 12-13, [1941], while Syoma managed to get away.… I saw their dead bodies… [When I came to the site on the second day after the shooting], they were covered with soil, just a little bit [i.e., with a thin layer of soil].
Q: Were you able to identify them?
A: Sure, all of them…. [Several] feet were sticking out [of the pit]… Their mother had only been wounded; she walked away; she got out [of the pit]….
