In December 1942, the Germans shot 700 people, both Jews and non-Jews, on the outskirts of Koziany. The Jewish victims of this massacre included all the Jews whom the Nazi authorities had left behind in Koziany as "specialists" during the resettlement of the rest of the local Jews to ghettos in larger towns. A list of Jews from Koziany who were shot in the town, drawn up by the Soviet State Extraordinary Commission (ChGK) in April 1945, contains 196 names.
