There were thirty-six evacuees of Jewish origin living in the village of Novo Petrikovka, in Stary Kermenchik County. In March 1942, the German cannibals forced these people to march to a clay pit two kilometers southwest of Novo Petrikovka, on the pretext of extracting clay to whitewash the houses. There, they [the Germans] perpetrated their brutal massacre. All thirty-six people – women, children, and elderly individuals – were shot dead and thrown into the pit. The shooting was carried out by policemen, who were hanged as traitors to the Motherland after the liberation of the area. The Gendarmerie chief… was in charge of this brutal massacre.
