Murder story of Kupyansk Jews in the Chalk Cliffs Ravine in Kupyansk

…On May 17, 1943, the Commission examined the pit in the ravine at the foot of the chalk cliff in the town of Kupyansk, and compiled the following report about it. 71 bodies of shot residents of the town of Kupyansk and the Kupyansk County were found during the exhumation of the pit, buried at a depth of one meter. These include 62 male bodies, 8 female bodies, and one body of a nursing infant. All the victims were barefoot, and some were naked, as well. The forensic team of the Commission has found evidence of brutal torture and mutilations.… The child had its head crushed by a bullet fired at close range. The Commission has noted that many of the victims did not have mortal wounds; apparently, these individuals were thrown into the pit and buried alive. This conclusion is borne out by the testimonies of the citizens who passed near the pit shortly after the shooting: They saw the earth move over the pit, and heard voices and moans coming from it….
