Murder story of Plissa Jews in the Plissa Area

Murder Site
Plissa Area
Poland
On the day before the major massacre, May 30, 1942, the Germans drafted a group of local non-Jews to dig pits near the local cemetery, north of Plissa. The Germans forbade the draftees to return to the village, wishing to prevent the spread of information about the imminent mass murder. On the morning of June 1, 1942, a squad of Einsatzkommando 9, which was assisted by the German Gendarmerie of Glębokie and local auxiliary policemen, surrounded the Plissa Ghetto. At 8 AM on that day, the perpetrators assembled the ghetto Jews in the market square and escorted them in small groups to the pits that had been dug 800 meters (half a mile) north of the village. According to eyewitness accounts, most of the victims walked on their own, while elderly and sick individuals were transported in carts. At the site, the Germans and the local policemen shot the victims, 325 people in total.
