In late June 1944, shortly before the German retreat from Minsk, approximately 30 Jews forced to perform various tasks at the command office of the security police of the General Commissariat of White Ruthenia were shot in the cellar of the office building located in Lenin (present-day Independence) Square, on the campus of the Belarusian State University.

May 21, 1963 From the verdict handed down to Georg Heuser, former chief of the 4th (executive [Gestapo]) department at the office of the Security Police and SD in Minsk, and to other former members of the Security Police office in Minsk: …Like other offices, the Security Police office continued to employ Jewish laborers after the liquidation of the Minsk Ghetto. There were about 30 of them, mostly craftsmen. After the liquidation of the ghetto, they were housed in an office building. On one of the last days before the [German] retreat, all but four of them were forced into the cellar by members of the Security Police office and shot. Their bodies were left unburied….
